Welcome to our School Council

Staff Member in Charge : Miss Godden

The School's Council is an ideal opportunity for pupils to get more involved in the way the school is run. It benefits the whole school community because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made within school.

Through our School Council, children develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation. It is the responsibility of each Councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent.

Members of the Council take part in discussions and votes and also feedback any relevant information to their class. At times they are requested to ask their class for ideas or take class votes relating to discussions by the Council.

A new school council is elected each year, with every class from Year 1 to Y6 nominating representatives. This creates a central group that speaks on behalf of the whole school and makes decisions about school life.

Tuck Shop

Every Thursday at play time, the School Council members run a tuck shop. At the beginning of the year the council members approached the pupils of Stella Maris asking what types of snacks they would enjoy. We held a meeting and had a discussion about what our pupils would like and then we had a democracy to decide which snacks we will sell.

Our aim was to have a range of healthy snacks making sure we think about children who may have allergies.
